Anticipation is running high as Canadian Women’s national team superstars are completing their seasons across the pond. While we’re excited for these Canadian women repping the maple leaf soon, they are keeping us proud by continuing to represent Canada on the international circuit. Shainah Joseph, the right-side phenom currently playing in France’s A league, has been recording outstanding statistics making her one of the marquee players to watch. On March 12th, Hilary Howe and Brie King, athletes of Béziers Volley, suffered a 0-3 loss vs. Mulhouse.
Nantes faced a tough loss as Canadian Vicky Savard and her team, Terville Florange Olympique Club defeated the squad 3-0 on March 12th.
Another win on March 12th came for Shainah Joseph and her team, Vandoeuvre Nancy Volley-Ball as they triumphed a 3-1 victory vs. Paris St-Cloud. Stay tuned for more on Joseph and her stellar season in the spotlight down below.
Kim Robitaille and her team, Saint-Raphaël Var Volley-Ball, swept opponent France Avenir 2024 on March 11th 3-0.
France – Ligue B
On March 12th, M.O.Mougins Volley Ball, home to Caroline Livingston, recorded a 3-1 win vs. Les Oiseux.
Turkey – Sultans League
Kiera Van Ryk and her team, TÜRK HAVA YOLLARI swept opponent SARIYER BLD in straight sets, leaving the score 3-0 on March 12th.
NİLÜFER BLD, home to Emily Maglio, unfortunately lost a battle vs. PTT with a final score of 0-3.
Italy – A1
Alexa Gray’s Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio defeated opponent Delta Despar Trentino in straight sets on February 27th boasting a 3-0 scoreboard.
Alicia Ogoms and her team, Volley Bergamo 1991, fell to opponent Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri in a close four set match on February 27th.
Switzerland – NLA
Unfortunately for Melissa Langegger and her team Volley Lugano, opponent VBC Cheseaux took the match on March 12th with a final score of 1-3.
Greece
Panathinaikos V.C, home to Canada’s Jennifer Cross won the Greek Cup after coming back from a set down to defeat fellow Canadian Andrea Mitrovic’s team A.O Thiras 3-1.
Cross was difficult to get past in the middle, contributing six blocks and produced a powerful attacking efficiency of 54%. It was the first time Panathinaikos V.C had won the Greek Cup in the past twelve years.
Germany – Bundesliga
Jazmine White of Schwarz-Weiß Erfurt endured a five-set battle vs. Schwarz-Weiß ErfurtvsUSC Münster and came out on top leading the scoreboard 3-2 on March 12th.
March 12th held another five-set thriller for Layne Van Buskirk and her team Dresdner Sportclub with an exciting 3-2 win for the Canadian native vs. letztes Spiel.
Finland – Mestaruusliiga
Puijo Wolley, home to Natasha Calkins and Courtney Baker, took one set off opponent Pölkky Kuusamo, but would ultimately lose the match 1-3 on February 26th.
Spotlight
6’0’’ right-side attacker on the Canadian Women’s Indoor National Team, Shainah Joseph, has been dominating the international circuit. The Ottawa, ON native is playing in France this season with Vandoeuvre Nancy Volley-Ball. Joseph was recently named MVP after one of her matches with 20 total points recording 18 attacks, 1 ace and 1 block to her name. Joseph’s team is currently sitting in 11th place overall, just one point behind the 10th place seed. Looking to finish the season strong, every game counts for Joseph and her squad as they aim to climb the rankings in anticipation of playoffs. While the international scene has their eyes on the 26-year-old as her impressive stats pile up, Shainah wears the maple-leaf proudly and Canada is grateful to have her on our side of the net.
