Another season and another PACWEST gold medal appearance for the Camosun Chargers after a three-set sweep over the Douglas Royals on Friday afternoon winning 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19.

The Chargers flexed their offensive muscle and were very balanced, quarterbacked by setter Lucas Maffia. The sophomore setter moved the ball around and was one of the best players on the floor defensively. Eduardo Bida and Brendan Folkerts played like their usual selves, but Graham Basi gave the Chargers another dimension spreading the ball around.

The Royals played well but didn’t have the weapons to match the Chargers offence.  Greg Moore was good as was Juhan Park creating chances for their time.  Ben Shand was the best player on the floor for the Royals playing in his final PACWEST championship tournament.

Bida had eight kills, unofficially, and was named the Player of the Match for the Chargers.

The Chargers will play in their eighth straight gold medal match and will face the COTR Avalanche or VIU Mariners.

Chargers head coach Kelvin Ma recorded his first playoff win and talked with Ryan Watters after the match.
