KAMLOOPS – Graduating outside hitter Sam Flowerday of the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team has earned one more accolade in his incredibly impressive career with the news that he has been named a Canada West Second Team All-Star.
COMPLETE RELEASE
The honour is Flowerday’s second from the conference after the native of Proserpine, AUS was named a First Team All-Star last year.
“Sam has continued to be an offensive machine throughout his entire career,” said WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly. “He’s managed to stay in the top 10 in Canada West production-wise offensively for the last number of years and this year was just the continuation of a great career.”
One of the top players in Canada since joining the ‘Pack in 2021, Flowerday finished tied for fourth in the conference with 263 kills over 20 regular season games. The electric outside was seventh in Canada West with 30 service aces.
Flowerday’s mark of 110 aces over his four seasons with TRU sets a new program record while his 1133 kills have him second in the program record books and 15th in Canada West history.
“We’ve always worked really hard on finding outstanding international players and Sam has really added to that,” said Hennelly. “He’s written another chapter of WolfPack excellence. It’s been a pleasure to host him for these last four years and it’s been great for our program.”
Joining the WolfPack for the shortened 2021-22 season, Flowerday has shown steady improvement in each and every year with TRU.
“He’s really refined his game in terms of shot selection and decision making,” said Hennelly. “I tell the younger guys that he’s a much different player every year when he comes back from the summer. He’s fortunate to train with the Australian National team but every year we send him off with a list of things to work on and he’s done that. We are proud of what he’s done and his growth as a player as has been phenomenal.”
This honour sees Flowerday earn the 16th spot on a conference all-star team in program history. He joins a prestigious list of those WolfPack members to be honoured atleast twice including former captain of team Canada Gord Perrin, two-time Olympic gold medallist Kevin Tillie, all-time program kills leader Brad Gunter and Tim Dobbert.
