Host McMaster sweeps Saskatchewan to secure spot in semifinals

HAMILTON (U SPORTS) – Third-year outside hitter, Sam Cooper, tallied double-digit kills during the McMaster Marauders’ decisive 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) over the Saskatchewan Huskies in the third quarterfinal game of the 2023 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship, presented by Mikasa in Burridge Gymnasium.

Matthew Rugosi had seven digs, and Robbie Fujisawa added 32 assists in the win. Big performances at the net were the difference between the two teams, with Wojciech Kraj recording six of the OUA Champions’ 18 blocks while limiting the Huskies to just eight blocks throughout the three sets.

Dylan Mortensen led the way for Saskatchewan with seven kills while also contributing 10 digs.

With the win, McMaster advances to the semifinals and will play the winner of Quarterfinal #4 at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 18. Saskatchewan will take on the loser of Quarterfinal #4 in the consolation round on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
