Huskie Basketball Kicks Off New Year at Home
The Huskie Basketball teams officially return to the court this weekend, with a pair of doubleheaders against the MRU Cougars set to be featured on the Ron and Jan Graham Centre Court.
The U SPORTS No. 6-ranked Saskatchewan women’s basketball team returns to action this weekend carrying over a six-game winning streak from 2024 and will look to add two more in a divisional matchup with the Mount Royal Cougars. The Huskies and Cougars find themselves back-to-back in the Canada West standings, with the Dogs 3rd in the Prairie Division with a 6-2 record followed by the Cougars at 7-3. In the final weekend of 2024, MRU split a two-game series with the Regina Cougars at home, which featured a lopsided 79-45 win in game two while the Huskies dominated the TRU Wolfpack to the tune of 100-28 and 96-36 wins.
For the Huskie men’s basketball team, their return to the court marks the first opportunity of the new year for the Dogs to earn their first win of the campaign. With a record of 0-8, the Huskies will host the MRU Cougars, a team which has just a single win against a team with an above .500 record, a 72-64 win against the now 5-3 Lethbridge Pronghorns. The Cougars are currently 5 spots ahead of the Dogs in the Prairie Division standings in 5th-place with a 6-4 record. The Dogs will look to build off a strong showing in Kamloops to close out last year, which saw the Huskies take the TRU Wolfpack to the brink in back-to-back games.

Huskie Volleyball Heads West to Open 2025
Following an eventful winter break for the Huskie volleyball teams, the Dogs will travel to Calgary this weekend to resume the 2024-25 season with a pair of doubleheaders against the Calgary Dinos.
For the Saskatchewan men’s volleyball team, ranked 9th in the final U SPORTS Top 10 of 2024, they return to the Canada West regular season schedule well-tested following a gauntlet south of the border over the past two weeks. The Dogs were in California and faced off with the Stanford Cardinals twice before taking on the Long Beach State Sharks, Pepperdine Waves, and UC San Diego Tritons in the North American Challenge. Now the Dogs resume their Canada West schedule against the Dinos, who trail the Huskies by just one game in the Canada West standings with a record of 5-5.
Also taking the court in Calgary, will be the Huskie women’s volleyball team who is coming off a strong showing in the midseason Battle of the Prairies Tournament on their home court. The Dogs went 2-1, defeating the Regina Cougars (3-0) and Huskie Alumni (3-0) in addition to playing a close match against the Winnipeg Wesmen (2-3). This weekend marks a pair of pivotal games for the Dogs, who are tied with the Calgary Dinos at 7-3 in the conference standings. With the two teams sitting 11th and 12th, a pair of wins would go a long way as both teams make a push for the 10th and final postseason position.
