Liam Kindle and Brooke Miner have been named the Smitty’s Sportsline Lounge Athletes of the Month for October following standout performances on the volleyball court and rugby pitch.
Kindle helped the Bobcat men’s volleyball team launch its Canada West regular season on a winning note, while Miner played a starring role in a historic championship triumph for BU women’s rugby.
Kindle leads by example
A fifth-year standout and co-captain, Kindle provided veteran leadership and an impressive all-around performance as the Bobcats opened their Canada West campaign in dramatic fashion.
Kindle delivered 17 kills, seven blocks and 14 digs on October 23 as Brandon rallied to complete a thrilling reverse sweep over the UBC Okanagan Heat in Kelowna.
The veteran followed that performance with another efficient outing in the Bobcats’ home opener on October 30 against the MacEwan Griffins.
Kindle recorded 10 kills on just 14 swings, committing only two attacking errors while hitting a remarkable .571 in a straight-sets victory.
Miner makes history
Miner etched her name into the Bobcat record books after helping Brandon capture its first-ever Prairie University Women’s Rugby Conference championship.
The Dauphin product rose to the occasion when the stakes were highest, scoring two tries in a hard-fought 15-12 victory over the SAIT Trojans in the league championship game on October 25.
Miner’s offensive contributions proved crucial in a defensive battle as the Bobcats emerged victorious in a rematch of the previous year’s championship final.
She also makes history with her individual recognition, becoming the first women’s rugby player to earn Bobcat Athlete of the Month honours.
