Lancers Disarm Paladins at Home

Published on

The Windsor Lancers men’s volleyball team had another successful weekend at home this past weekend while hosting the RMC Paladins from Kingston.

The number four U SPORTS nationally ranked Lancers defeated the Paladins twice in a pair of outings first on Friday night with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, and 25-16) result and then followed up less than 24 hours later on Saturday afternoon with another 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) win in Windsor.

WEEKEND STATS

Anthony Ivanovski led the Lancers on Friday night offensively with his 10 kills while also recording 3 serving aces from the service line. Chase Bridges also had a stellar serving game on Friday with his 4 service aces.

Ivanovski had 8 kills on Saturday while Gustavo Siqueira led the blue and gold offensively with his game-high of 11 kills in the winning cause.

Colin Hutchinson also had a great performance on Saturday afternoon with his 8 kills, 2 aces, and 3 block performance in the midday matinee.

Markus Law-Heese had back-to-back solid setting performances helping his teammates score with 25 assists on Friday and adding another 26 assists on Saturday.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW

The first set of the weekend saw both teams produce an admirable effort which was matched with one another in the early stages of the match.

However, toward the mid-way point of the first set RMC would find themselves struggling to keep up with the Lancers who began to emerge with their poised experience and confidence that allowed them to polish off the first set on top 25-14 and go up 1-0.

Windsor would remain tested by RMC in the early portion of the second set again and this time around the Paladins found a way to play on par to the caliber of the Lancers throughout the midpoint duration of the set which included stunning the hosts with an overturned lead at 14-13.

The blue and gold would go to finish out the set in a respectable fashion despite the Paladins pesky play that may have caught them off guard and finish off the second set on top 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead.

The Lancers went into the third set with another tight early battle with RMC who remained in the hunt until Windsor broke open the gap in the middle of the set to regain control of the game and coast past the finish line with a sweeping result earning a 25-16 win and 3-0 victory over the Paladins.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW

The first set began with both sides closely contesting with one another which was anticipated granted the intensity brought from the previous night into the rematch affair.

Windsor would win the middle of the set points spread to eventually go on to round out the first set on top 25-17 and take a 1-0 set advantage in the match,

An identical 25-17 Windsor result would occur in the second set despite Windsor breaking open an 8-0 unanswered lead before that eventually fueled the Paladins to push for some point but with such a large deficit it made it tough for the visitors to come back early on allowing the Lancers to push the red and white to the brink heading into the third set.

A much closer tilt in the third set kicked off the set with both teams equally trading points and leads early on before Windsor thrived again during the midpoint of the set and found a way to earn the sweeping win once again for a second consecutive 3-0 win over the Paladins in Windsor with a 25-15 third set decision to call the match and improve to 14-2 on the campaign.
