MONTREAL – McGill University’s annual McGill24 fundraiser kicks off on Wednesday (March 12) and thanks to the generosity of football alumnus Issie Rabinovitch (BSc ’67) and his wife Rhoda Rabinovitch (BA ’69), all contributions to the Redbirds football team made during McGill24 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a total of $140,000.

The one-day event offers a unique opportunity for alumni, students, faculty, and supporters to come together and give back to the institution that has played such a crucial role in shaping so many lives. It aims to raise funds for a range of athletics, academics and community-focused initiatives, supporting scholarships, training and student programs that enhance the McGill experience.

The Rabinovitch challenge means any donation to the football program on March 12 will go twice as far and have double the impact, helping to fund a wide variety of important projects, including athletic financial awards, team travel, sports science, strength and conditioning, mental performance and nutrition, among others.

But the gift amplifications do not stop there. Any donations made through the McGill Crowdfunding site on March 12, between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. EDT, are eligible for a maximum matching ratio of 1:1, for the first $1,000 donated per donor. If the total donations made during this period exceeds the amount of matching funds available, the matching ratio will be adjusted accordingly. Matching funds are available thanks to the generosity of various donors, including the Board of Governors, Friends of McGill alumni support groups and the McGill Alumni Association.

Contributions will be given a significant boost, helping to ensure that McGill Athletics and Recreation continues to provide an exceptional experience for its student-athletes in a vibrant and innovative community. With these added incentives, McGill24 presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to our future while making an even greater impact in the lives of our varsity athletes and recreation students.
