MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS KEEP ROLLING AFTER ANOTHER WIN OVER TMU

Published on

The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team didn’t make it overly easy on themselves Friday night, but they got the job done.

Tied for the longest winning streak in the OUA, the Lakers were looking to add to it Saturday afternoon when they faced the TMU Bold again, a day after defeating the Bold 3-1.

For the second straight day, the Lakers grabbed a win over the Bold, topping TMU 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 31-29, 25-20).

The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with the Lakers grabbing an early lead, but thanks to a 13-7 run by TMU, the game turned.

Down 20-18, the Lakers regained the lead, but couldn’t close things out, falling 27-25.

Nipissing started the second set with a 14-9 lead, looking to stay out in front of the Bold and even up the match.

A late 21-15 lead had the Lakers in a position to win the game and tie the match and they capitalized, winning 25-23.

In the third set, the teams traded points and were tied 20-20.

It took a bit of extra time, as the Lakers prevailed 31-29 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

With the Lakers lead 2-1 in the fourth, Nipissing finished things off.

After lead 18-12, the Lakers cruised to a 25-20 to claim the match.

Marc Marchand led the Lakers with 16 kills, while Justice Smith and Taydon Shantz each had 11 in the victory.

Nipissing is back in action next weekend when they hit the road to take on the RMC Paladins in Kingston.
