London, ON – Western secured a straight-set win, 3-0 win over TMU Friday night on home court at Alumni Hall.
The final set scores were 25-22, 25-20, and 28-26. Notably, this match marked the first game of 2025.
The Mustangs opened the first set with a balanced attack led by Michael Jones, who assisted on multiple key kills, including two by Jonah Millard and one by Kendall Homenick at critical moments. A significant stretch occurred when the Mustangs scored four consecutive points to lead 5-3, with Oliver Toomes and Cameron McGregor contributing to a defensive stand against TMU. The Mustangs maintained their edge by capitalizing on service errors and attack errors from Toronto, concluding the set with a kill from Kendall Homenick, assisted by Michael Jones, to secure a 25-22 victory.

Cade Smith stood out for Western with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .370 across three matches, contributing significantly to the team’s offence. Michael Jones was a key playmaker, leading with 40 assists while also adding 13 digs and a service ace. Jonah Millard showed efficiency with a .462 hitting percentage and seven kills, further supported by his 9.5 total points. Oliver Toomes contributed defensively with three total blocks, also adding seven kills to his performance.
The two sides are back at it on tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, Jan. 11) for a 4:00 pm start.
