After helping Manitoba to a bronze medal at nationals, charismatic right side Karil Dadash Adeh is taking the next step in his volleyball career. The native of Iran has signed a pro contract to play for Italian club Pallavolo Macerata.
The team, which tours under the sponsored name of Banca Macerata Fisiomed MC, has been around since 1984. They compete in one of the most competitive Second Divisions in the world, under the leadership of head coach Romano Giannini.
A 25-year veteran in the sport as a coach, Giannini joined the club this past year after four seasons with seven-time Italian champion Lube Civitanova, one of the top ten teams in the world according to Bisons head coach Lupo Ludwig.
Most recently, Giannini led the organization – which plays in Division 1 of the Italian Volleyball League, the highest level of professional club competition in the country – to the 2025 Italian Cup
It was during Giannini’s time with Lube Civitanova that he first connected with Dadash Adeh. Now, the pair are re-connecting.
“A2 is very competitive. It’s for sure the best second division league in the world. Obviously the level of competition is incredibly huge. I know the coach of the team. He was the assistant coach for Lube Civitanova, which is one of the best volleyball teams in the world, by far. I had the privilege of practicing with them four years ago, so I’ve known the coach since then. When I got the offer, I didn’t think twice,” said Dadash Adeh.
“It’s a very good first step coming out of university. This opportunity is very unique, very rare. I had offers from a couple of other Eastern European countries, including Slovenia, but for sure they can’t compete at the same level as A2.”
Dadash Adeh departs Manitoba having left a stellar legacy. In just two-and-a half seasons, he re-wrote the school’s record book, establishing new program bests for aces in a regular season (rally scoring era) with 53 in 2024-25, as well as aces in a match, with eight against MacEwan on January 23, 2026.
Overall as a Bison, Dadash Adeh tallied 365 career regular season kills, along with 85 aces, fourth all-time in the rally scoring era. At nationals, he was a force, recording 23 kills, five assisted blocks, 1 solo block and 30 total points in three games.
“Karil accomplished a lot during his time with the program. He played with confidence and helped bring a level of energy that was felt by all of those around him,” said Ludwig. “We wish him all the best as he continues his journey at the pro level.”
“I’m very privileged,” added Dadash Adeh.
“I think [playing in Italy] is going to be a very good starting step for me. The last time I played in Europe was four years ago when I was 19 years old. Now is a good time to show myself and to go from there.”
