REDS Blank Aigles Bleues

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored a straight sets win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action, Saturday night at UNB’s Richard J. Currie Center.

The home team won with scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-17.

After winning the opening set, the REDS continued to exercise control, building an early 7-2 lead in the second.

Heather Benko (Sechelt, BC) served a couple of aces to push UNB to the win in the second set.

In the third set, the REDS went up early and never looked back.

Benko finished the night with 14 digs and five service aces while Lydia Green (Bedford, NS) struck 15 kills earning Tim Horton’s Player of the Game honours.

Kiana Huggins (London, ON) contributed 14 kills and 11 digs. Jenna Adams (Truro, NS) had a dozen digs and Lauren Roworth (Victoria, BC) registered 41 assists.

Jasmine Allain (Richibucto, NB) led Moncton with 14 digs, while Sierra Sarty (Halifax, NS) had five kills.

With the win, the REDS improve to 4-and-7, good for fifth place in the AUS standings.

Moncton is now 1-and-10 and sits in sixth place.

The Aigles Bleues return home and will host the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 7:00pm.

The REDS head to Wolfville on Friday to take on Acadia. That match is also scheduled for a 7:00pm start.
