(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS completed a weekend sweep of the Saint Mary’s Huskies with a 3-0 Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball win, Saturday in Halifax.

The REDS won 25-23, 25-21, and 29-27.

“We’ve put a lot of work in, both physically and mentally, and that showed up for us in tonight’s match,” said REDS’ head coach Lauren Hale-Miller. “Two great road wins for us this weekend. This group loves to compete, so anytime we get the opportunity to do that it’s fun.”

Lydia Green and Sonya Nielsen led the REDS offensively with 13 and nine kills respectively.

Jenna Adams had 18 digs, and Talia Nixon registered 30 assists and put up five blocks.

Isla Olesen had five blocks too, and Danielle Krzywonos added three.

Collectively, the REDS threw up 15 blocks.

Heather Benko had 16 digs and served four aces.

For the Huskies, Emilia Mikanovich recorded 15 kills and 16 digs. She also had three blocks.

Jordin Person served half a dozen aces and Brea De Souza had eight digs.

“The wins this weekend makes us proud of the work we’ve been putting in,” said Hale-Miller. “We’re excited to be in the position that we are, but also mindful that it’s a long season and we’ll have to keep working hard to accomplish our goals.”

With the win, the REDS improve to 5-0 and remain atop the AUS standings. The Huskies, in second place, are 4-2.

The REDS return to home court for their next action, Friday night, when they host the Memorial Sea-Hawks. First serve is scheduled for 8:00pm.
