HALIFAX, NS – The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies in straight sets (25-23, 25-15, 25-22) in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action on Friday night at the Homburg Centre.
Sea-Hawks libero Alexis Sweet was named Player of the Match with 13 digs and one assist. Lydia Grawer led Memorial in scoring with 11.5 points (nine kills, one ace, 1.5 blocks, two assists and 13 digs) while Naomie McWhinney added 10.5 points (five kills, 3.5 blocks, two aces) and Karen Greek dished out a match high 27 assists and added three aces.
The Huskies were led in defeat by 12.5 points from Esther Wildeboer (10 kills, 2.5 blocks, 10 digs), while Taylor Lougheed dished out 23 assists.
The Sea-Hawks win improves their record to 8-5 on the season, while the Huskies drop to 6-6. The two teams will meet again for a rematch on Saturday afternoon, 1 p.m. at the Homburg Centre.
