The No.8 nationally-ranked Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team defeated the Nipissing Lakers in three straight sets (29-27, 25-19, 25-22) on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Fourth-year right-side hitter Sadie Dick led the Badgers in the victory, registering 17.5 points off 16 kills and three block assists. Fourth-year setter Lauren Teehan recorded a total of 12 digs; an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) career-high.
Nipissing began with a 5-0 set lead but some timely blocks from the Badgers, including a double-block from Emma Baruchelli and Lauren Teehan sealed a 29-27 first-set win for Brock.
In the second set, the Badgers dominated from the start thanks in part to six kills from Dick as the hosts took the second set by a score of 25-19.
The third and final set saw Brock ice the game with a 25-22 set win. The teams traded points for most of the set, but late errors from the Lakers pushed the Badgers over their opponents.
Brock sported a hitting percentage of .255 which is nearly triple of Nipissing’s .086 hitting percentage.
This was the Badgers ninth sweep of the season, finishing the OUA regular season with a record of 16-4.
Next, the No. 8 Badgers will prepare for their OUA quarterfinal matchup on their quest for a fourth straight Quigley Cup title as they await who their opponent will be. Brock will host on Friday, Feb. 21 at Bob Davis Gymnasium at 6 p.m. This game can be streamed on OUA.tv and stay tuned for when tickets will be made available.
