June 24, 2026 – Fresh off another season of national success, Canada West has unveiled its 2026-27 volleyball schedule.
The conference enters the new campaign after extending its dominance on the U SPORTS stage last season. The Alberta Pandas captured the national women’s championship, while the Trinity Western Spartans claimed the men’s title, marking the sixth consecutive year Canada West programs have swept both national volleyball championships.
The road toward another championship season begins Oct. 23-24, as both the men’s and women’s regular seasons get underway with a full slate of 14 matches. Opening weekend features several marquee matchups, including Manitoba visiting Trinity Western and Calgary travelling to UBC.
The 12-week regular season concludes Feb. 20, with postseason action beginning Feb. 26-28 through the play-in round. Quarterfinal series follow March 5-7 before the conference’s top remaining teams battle for championship banners at the Canada West Final Four on March 12-13.
National championship action follows shortly after, with the Mount Royal Cougars hosting the 2027 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship in Calgary from March 19-21. The University of Toronto will host the 2027 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship.
WVB | Pandas look to defend national crown in loaded field
It was a historic season for the Alberta Pandas in 2025-26, as the program not only captured a second straight Canada West championship but also claimed its first U SPORTS national title since 2007. The Pandas were powered by a deep roster headlined by Abby Guezen, who capped her remarkable university career by earning U SPORTS Female Athlete of the Year honours. Guezen won’t be returning next season after signing her first professional contract in Italy, but the Pandas will still return an experienced roster as they look to defend their titles.
The conference once again proved its dominance on the national stage, with Canada West programs now having captured six consecutive U SPORTS women’s volleyball championships. Alongside Alberta, Trinity Western also emerged as one of the top sides in the nation last season after earning a conference silver and finishing fourth at nationals.
Meanwhile, UBC had another strong year after capturing a conference bronze, while Thompson Rivers enjoyed a breakthrough campaign and will look to carry momentum forward after qualifying for its first-ever U SPORTS championship tournament.
Alberta opens its title defence with a road trip to Regina on Oct. 23 and 24. Fans can also circle Nov. 6 and 7 on the calendar, when the Pandas host Trinity Western in a rematch of last season’s Canada West championship final. Another marquee matchup awaits Jan. 21 and 23, when the Spartans and Thunderbirds renew one of the conference’s premier rivalries with a home-and-home series.
MVB | Spartans return to defend conference and national crowns
Last season, Trinity Western re-established itself as the team to beat in U SPORTS men’s volleyball. This year, they’ll look to do it all over again.
The Spartans captured their first Canada West championship since 2022, defeating Manitoba in the conference final to reclaim the crown. The victory capped a dominant postseason run after an impressive 17-3 regular season campaign for TWU.
The success didn’t stop there. Trinity Western carried that momentum to the national stage, capturing its first U SPORTS championship since 2023 and adding another banner to one of the most decorated programs in the nation.
UBC also enjoyed a memorable campaign, going 19-1 in the regular season before earning a conference bronze and a national silver medal. Manitoba also got back into the spotlight after an incredible Canada West playoff run that saw them fall just short of winning their first conference title since 2017.
The schedule makers have given fans an opening weekend treat, as the Spartans open their title defence against the Bisons in a Canada West final rematch on Oct. 23.
