Abbotsford, B.C. – The Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team had everything working for them Saturday night with a 3-0 sweep of the Calgary Dinos inside the UFV Athletic Centre.
Lauren Attieh had 11 kills and eight digs to lead the way for UFV, which moves to 11-1 on the year and stays right the top of the Canada West standings while battling for a conference title. Meanwhile, the loss sends the Dinos to 3-11.
An early 6-1 run saw UFV jump out to an 11-6 edge early in the first and never look back. A kill by L. Attieh stretched the lead to 16-7 before a block by Mo Likness gave the home team a 25-13 first-set win.
The Cascades continued their hot play in the start of the second as a kill by Mandi Feist quickly made things 5-2 and a Dinos error forced a timeout as Calgary trailed 14-7. The Dinos found some things that worked late in the second to tighten things some, but L. Attieh again found the floor for the 25-19 win.
It was another case of big early runs that gave the Cascades the quick edge. Going up 8-3 and 16-8, Calgary continued to fight. A kill by Kaylyn Tanton closed the deficit to 19-14 and block by Narelle Arnold and Amelie Anderson made it 22-20 late. But UFV responded with a 3-0 burst to close out the scoring in this one and clinch the weekend sweep for the Cascades.
The Dinos return home for their final home series of the 2024-25 season next week, hosting Trinity Western for a pair of games inside the Jack Simpson Gym, starting Friday.
