HAMILTON, Ont. — Women’s Swimming, Michelle Wang (Port Elgin, Ont.), and Men’s Volleyball, Seth O’Brien (Kingston, Ont.) have been crowned this week’s Marauder Athletes of the Week for their excellent showings over the weekend.
Michelle Wang – (Port Elgin, Ont.)
Michelle Wang earns Athlete of the Week honours after delivering a phenomenal performance at the meet, highlighted by being the only McMaster woman to win an individual race. Wang struck gold in the 50m butterfly with a time of 27.36, out-touching Toronto’s Maria Cosic by just a tenth of a second and securing 20 points. She added a bronze in the 50m freestyle, a fifth-place finish in the 50m backstroke, and a sixth in the 100m freestyle, while also anchoring two fourth-place relay efforts. With multiple top finishes and crucial points earned, Wang’s versatility and competitive edge led the way for the Marauders.
Seth O’Brien – (Kingston, Ont.)
Seth O’Brien delivered a standout weekend to earn Athlete of the Week honours, powering the Marauders to back-to-back wins over the Guelph Gryphons. The outside hitter was dominant offensively, posting 16 kills on Friday and 12 more on Saturday, finishing with an efficient .294 and .250 hitting percentage in the two matches. O’Brien added 30 total digs, showcasing his two-way impact and reliability. He also contributed four total blocks and 31 total points across the weekend. His consistency, intensity, and ability to take over matches were key factors in McMaster’s strong results and his well-deserved recognition.
