After a gutsy split on the road last weekend, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team returned home looking to build more momentum as they battle for a playoff spot.
The Lakers welcomed the Trent Excalibur to town for the first of two matches this weekend, as they hit the court Friday night.
Nipissing picked up where they left off last weekend as they swept the Excalibur, winning 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-15).
In the opening set, the Lakers wasted little time gaining the advantage as they went ahead 10-4 to get the ball rolling.
They extended their lead to 16-8 at the midway point and didn’t look back, picking up a 25-12 victory.
It was more of the same in the second, but Trent did start stronger.
With the score 7-7, Nipissing went on an 8-2 run to go ahead 15-9 midway through the game.
From there, the Lakers didn’t look back as they cruised to their second straight win, coming away with a 25-16 victory.
Up 2-0 entering the third set, the Lakers took care of business.
An early 8-7 lead ballooned into a 19-14 advantage late in the set and Nipissing put things away after that grabbing a convincing 25-15 to sweep the match.
