NORTH BAY, ON – Nipissing Women’s Volleyball suffered a tough loss at home to the Ottawa Gee-Gees, losing 3-1.
In the first, Ottawa led 7-1 before growing their lead to 11-3, then 15-5. Nipissing climbed into the set scoring three points in a row, down now 19-11. The teams traded points before Ottawa scored three in a row to end the set 25-14, and led 1-0.
The second set saw Nipissing jump to a 4-0 lead before Ottawa eventually tied things at 8. Nipissing then scored four points in a row to lead 12-8. After another run of three, the score was 16-12 for the Lakers. Nipissing took four of the next six points to lead 20-14, then three more in a row after an Ottawa timeout to lead 23-14. Ottawa scored three points to try and halt Nipissing’s momentum, but Elisabeth Spence’s kill gave the Lakers a 25-17 win, tying the match at one set apiece.
The third set saw Ottawa jump to a 6-2 lead, then making it 12-5. Nipissing scored three in a row but the Gee-Gees answered with three in a row of their own to lead 17-9. Ottawa then took four of six points to lead 21-13. Nipissing got it to 17 points, but the Gee-Gees were able to secure the set win, taking it 25-17 and leading 2-1 in the match.
In the fourth, Nipissing led 6-3 early before Ottawa countered and tied the game at 10. The Lakers and Gee-Gees battled hard, each taking point after point before Ottawa scored four in a row to lead 18-16. Nipissing pressed and went on a three-point run to trail by one, 23-22. The Gee-Gees sealed Nipissing’s fate shortly after, winning 25-23 and the match 3-1.
