North Bay, ON – Lakers Women’s Volleyball scored a huge 3-0 win at home over the Trent Excalibur on Saturday, Jan. 24 at home.
The first set began with a 3-3 tie as both teams settled into the match. Then, the Lakers scored an amazing 14 points in a row to jump to a 17-4 lead. Aurora House and Oceane Raymond-Leduc had kills during the run that saw Nipissing take a commanding lead. Trent would find their footing and score nine more points before the end of the set, but Anna Marie Horvat and Aurora House’s kills would give Nipissing a 25-13 win in set one.
In set two, the Lakers and Excalibur battled closely, trading points until the score saw a 10-7 Nipissing lead. Oceane Raymond-Leduc and Ava Voss’ kills gave Nipissing a 13-8 lead. The Lakers would maintain their five-point lead well. Raymond-Leduc provided key kills down the stretch and Addison’s Hannivan’s service ace helped Nipissing take a 2-0 lead in the match, winning 25-18.
Trent found their footing in the third set, jumping to a 9-3 lead early. Nipissing rallied but Trent maintained their lead at 13-7. The Lakers found their spark, winning four of five points, followed by another five in a row to take a 19-17 lead. Trent would tie the match at 19, then 21. Nipissing sealed the deal by winning four of the final five points of the set to take set three 25-22 and the match 3-0. The Lakers capitalized on Trent’s attack and serving errors to aid in their offensive attack.
Women’s Volleyball is back in action in two weeks at home as the Ottawa GeeGees pay a visit to North Bay. Match one goes Friday, Feb. 6 at 6PM, while match two goes Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2PM. Catch the action live on OUA.tv.
