Queen’s Women’s Volleyball extended their winning streak to 11on their weekend road trip to Guelph to take on the Gryphons. In their second match up on Saturday afternoon, the Gaels achieved their eighth clean sweep of the regular season (25-21, 25-15, 31-29)
The Gaels opened up the match with strong attacks that the Gryphons successfully blocked. Queen’s pivoted their attacks to go over the block, deep in the back of the court. Their strategy proved successful, and the Gaels pulled ahead and took the set.
Queen’s maintained their offensive strategy through the second, getting points off of rolls and tips, and never trailed the Gryphons in points.
The Gaels took off at the 14-point mark and bagged 5 points in a row, with Amanda Siksna (Education) serving for all five.
Evidently in their groove, Queen’s kept up their momentum and picked up the second set.
Through the beginning of the third, the Gaels maintained their aggressive presence and built up a nine-point lead.
The Gryphons pulled together and gradually chipped away at Queens’ lead and tied up the game at 25-25.
The Gaels demonstrated their resolve under pressure, and with a final error from Guelph secured the match in extra points.
Throughout the match, Holly Biasi (Arts & Science) anchored the Gaels on defense and picked up 11 digs. Duchesneau bagged another 9.
The Gaels return to the ARC on Jan. 31 to take on the Western Mustangs, who match the Gaels’ 13-1 record on the season. Tickets are free for students and can be purchased on the Queen’s ticket website.
