MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS BRING IN QUALITY LEFT SIDE WITH ADDITION OF HALEY

The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team has made a splash with a recruit that will be joining the program next season.

The Lakers are excited and proud to announce the addition of left side, Grant Haley, who will be suiting up for Nipissing in the 2025-26 OUA season.

Making his way to the Lakers from the Ottawa Mavericks volleyball club, Haley is excited about the next chapter of her volleyball career.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of the Lakers program. I have always wanted to play university volleyball and I am grateful to have this opportunity with the Nipissing Lakers,” he said. “My family has always been involved and supported me in my volleyball journey and I am thankful for their support along the way.”
Hailing from Cornwall, ON, Haley believes his work ethic and abilities will make him a valuable part of the Lakers and he’s excited to showcase his skills, but knows there will be work to do.

“I am a very well-rounded player with a hard and fast arm swing who is always looking to improve my skills both on and off the court,” Haley explained. “I am very focused and determined in the gym because I believe hard work in practice translates into success in games. I plan to contribute to the Lakers program over the coming years and I look forward to joining this team.”

Enrolling in the BPHE/Concurrent Education programs, Haley believes Nipissing is the perfect fit for him both academically and athletically and is looking forward to both challenges when he arrives in North Bay in the fall.

Haley has won many different sporting awards over the years, including athlete of the year and in grade 11 he won male volleyball player of the year for my city, but being chosen as captain at 18U and bringing his leadership traits to my teammates is something he’s most proud of.

His club team, the Ottawa Mavericks finished fourth in Ontario and fourth in Canada in our 17U year and we are pleased with our achievement so far this year.

Lakers head coach Eric Yung is impressed with Haley’s on court abilities, but also what he brings to the program off the court.

“We are excited to add another young leader to the program whose character compliments our culture tremendously. Grant is a versatile athlete and has a great arm. We look forward to having Grant on campus in the fall of 2025.”

Haley can’t wait to get started and help the team continue their climb in the OUA.

“The expectations I have set for myself are to improve the skills I need to refine to make me an even better all-around volleyball player so I can contribute to the team. My expectation for the team is to keep getting stronger and moving up in the OUA rankings,” he stated. “The growth and strength of this program is very motivating and I feel there is lots of potential. When I met the team I felt they were unified and close and I am excited to be a part of the mix.”
