SASKATOON, Sask. – For the first time since the 2022-23 season, the University of Saskatchewan (USask) Huskie women’s volleyball team has qualified for the Canada West playoffs, and are set to host the Trinity Western Spartans in a conference play-in series.

After a two-year hiatus from the Canada West postseason, the Huskie women’s volleyball team is set to make their return to the playoffs with a home play-in series this weekend. The Dogs will host the Trinity Western Spartans for the right to advance to the quarterfinals and take on the No. 1-seeded UFV Cascades.
It will mark the second meeting between the Huskies and Spartans in as many weeks, with the two teams having faced off in a regular season finale just this past weekend. The two-game series in Langley saw the Spartans take both games (3-1 & 3-2) in what was a pair of tightly contested matches in enemy territory.
The Huskies, looking for a different result this time around on their home court, got off to a hot start last weekend with two set wins before the Spartans captured three straight to take the match. Despite the final result, on paper, the two teams put on near identical performances which should come as no surprise given both team’s season statistics.
Both teams ranking in the top 10 in conference scoring per set (16.5 to 15.6) and hitting percentage (.216 to .205) in addition to several other major statistical categories. With their similar outputs this season, home court advantage could prove to be crucial for a play-in series where both teams matchup so closely.
Action from the opening round series kicks off on Friday at 7:00 PM, before game two on Saturday at 3:00 PM. If needed, Game 3 will take place Sunday at 3:00 PM.
