Gabrielle Flaman Named to U SPORTS All-Rookie Team

WINNIPEG, Man. – For the first time since the 2003-04 season, a University of Saskatchewan Huskie women’s volleyball student-athlete has been named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team. Gabrielle Flaman, a first year libero for the Dogs, solidified her place among the top rookies in the nation Wednesday night at the U SPORTS All-Canadian banquet.

Gabrielle Flaman joins former Huskies Shannon Usher (2003-04) and Stephanie Wheler (2001-02) as the only Saskatchewan players to be honoured among the nation’s top rookies.

Flaman produced an outstanding 2024-25 campaign, finishing the regular season 7th in the conference in digs and 26th in the nation with 210. Starting every match of the campaign, the local product of Saskatoon and arts & science student, played in the third-most sets in Canada West, finishing just four back on conference leader. The defensive specialist also contributed to one of the conference’s best offensive units, recording 42 assists and averaging 0.55 assists per set. 

A member of one of the conference’s best defensive teams, Flaman helped the Huskies to a 10-10 record, playoff berth, and their first Final Four appearance since 2003-04. She continued her impressive play into the playoffs, where she played a key role in the Dogs’ incredible run which included a Play-In series win over the TWU Spartans, a Quarter-Final series win over the top-seeded UFV Cascades, and a U SPORTS Nationals berth. 

The rookie will now look to help Saskatchewan on the national stage, as the Huskies are set to take on the UBC Thunderbirds in the 2025 U SPORTS Quarter-Finals Friday night (Mar. 14).
