Gaels Bag Victory in Nail-Biter Against Guelph

In their first match up of the new year, Queen’s Women’s Volleyball took on the Guelph Gryphons. The Gaels secured a five-set win (30-32, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10).

In the win, Aimee Lemire (Education) led the way for Queen’s with 21.5 points from 18 kills, three blocks, and two service aces.

Christine Abu (Arts & Science) added another eight blocks and Ellaina Colly (Arts & Science) picked up 48 assists.

Queen’s nabbed the first five points of the match and took an early lead. The lead did not last long; errors on the Gaels part cause the Gryphons to catch up.

Guelph built on their momentum and pushed to extra points before taking the set.

Through the beginning of the second, Queen’s and Guelph went point for point. The Gaels never trailed the Gryphons and easily took the set, with big kills from Amanda Siksna (Education) and Claire Carter (Business).

Guelph entered the third with an aggressive presence at the net, picking up early points. The Gaels briefly came back and led, until the Gryphons rallied together and came back and resecured the set.

In the fourth, the Gaels trailed the Gryphons by a significant deficit. Kills from Carter (Business) turned things around and forced the fifth

The back and forth continued through the fifth, with the teams going point for point until the six point mark. Errors from Guelph brought the Gaels back into the lead and they secured the victory with a service ace from Carter.

With the win, Women’s Volleyball’s record on the season improves to 12-1 and their winning streak extends to ten.
