Gaels seeded No. 6 for U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship

KINGSTON, Ont. (March 21, 2022) – Queen’s Men’s Volleyball are seeded No. 6 for the U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship, hosted by the University of Manitoba, from March 25-27.

The Gaels will open the tournament against the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Queen’s will enter the U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship after winning the OUA Bronze Medal. The Gaels defeated the Brock Badgers 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-21) Saturday at the ARC to earn their spot into the national championship. They finished the regular season 10-1 and second in the OUA East, losing the OUA East Final to the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-16).

The Gaels’ Erik Siksna (Markham, Ont.) was named the OUA East Division Most Valuable Player for the 2021-22 season after leading the Gaels with 135.0 points and 108 kills (3.09 per set) this season. The Outside was also second on Queen’s and fourth in the OUA with 15 service aces, and second on the team with 49 digs. Siksna also had 17 blocks in the regular season this year.

Siksna was also named a First Team OUA All-Star along with Lachlan McBride (Vancouver, B.C.). Lukas Kaufman (Stratford, Ont.) and Cole Duncanson (St. Catherines, Ont.) were named Second Team OUA All-Stars while Duncanson was also named to the OUA All-Rookie Team.
