MacEwan Athletics

CALGARY – Nothing went according to plan for the Griffins men’s volleyball team as they lost in straight sets to the Mount Royal Cougars on Friday night.

MacEwan finished with a .064 attacking percentage in the match as they lost 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 and fell to 0-15 on the season. MRU is now 5-10.

Both Daylan Andison and Mitchell Croft had six kills to pace MacEwan, while newcomer Brendon Lord saw his first action as a Griffin after transferring from Thompson Rivers University, and finished with four kills and an .800 hitting percentage.

MRU was led by Ryan John, who had 10 kills, while Cody Hudson chipped in nine and Paul Dionne added seven kills, five digs and three blocks.

MacEwan’s service game yielded no aces and 14 errors in three sets, while MRU’s wasn’t much better with two aces and 15 errors. But the home side attacked at .280, which was the difference in the match.

The teams will meet again on Saturday (7 p.m., Canada West TV).
