Varsity Athletics | 2/19/2025 1:00:00 PM

York University Lions volleyball players Chris Hoffman and Brooklyn Parliament have been named the latest York athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 16.

Hoffman, a first-year outside hitter and psychology major, closed his stellar rookie season on a high note, putting up 19 kills in a pair of matches against the TMU Bold last weekend. The Uxbridge, Ont., native led his team in kills on Friday night with 10, and posted nine more in Saturday’s four-set win. He also had a pair of aces and an assisted block. Hoffman finishes the season tied for 23rd in the OUA in kills with 165, and will be among those in contention for OUA rookie of the year.

Hoffman and the Lions prepare to host the Nipissing Lakers in the OUA quarter-final Friday night at Tait McKenzie Centre. First serve flies at 7:00 pm. You can get your tickets here, or stream the match here.

Parliament, a fourth-year outside hitter from Summerland, B.C., played a fantastic final weekend of her OUA career, earning a total of 26 kills over York’s weekend split with TMU. That included 18 in Saturday’s season finale, which ties a season and career high she set on Jan. 17 vs. Nipissing. The sociology major finishes her OUA career with 257 kills, including a career-best 146 this season, good for third on the team and 29th in the OUA.

Parliament’s Lions narrowly missed out on the postseason, finishing ninth in the OUA, two games back of the final postseason position.
