Huskies Head to Postseason Following Road Loss to Spartans

LANGLEY, B.C. – The Trinity Western Spartans made it two straight with a 3-1 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. The 19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-23 win improves the Spartans to 8-12, while the loss drops the Huskies to 10-10.
 
Third-year outside Maryn Boldon with 19 kills, 8 digs, and two service aces, and third-year outside Faye Murray with 14 kills, and eight digs led the Spartans. Keely Anderson with 12 kills, and five blocks, and Abbey Klein with 11 kills led the Huskies.
 
Rookie setter Tayana Dmitruk finished with 31 set assists, and 11 digs for the Spartans. While Tielle Hagel finished with 44 set assists and nine digs for the Huskies.

The Spartans and Huskies were even early in the opening set, but the Huskies took control midway to take a 17-13 lead. Saskatchewan continued to play well through the end of the set, taking a 1-0 lead with the 25-19 win. TWU hit at .179 (11-6-28), while Saskatchewan hit at .296 (11-3-27).
 
Trinity Western turned the tables in the second set taking a 16-12 lead. The Huskies closed to two points 18-16, before the Spartans closed out the set with a 7-4 run to take the second set 25-20 and even the match at 1-1. TWU hit at .306 (15-4-36), while Saskatchewan hit at .188 (12-6-32).
 
The Spartans carried their strong play into the third set and jumped out to a solid eight-point,16-8, midway through the set. TWU continued through to the end of the set to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 win. The Spartans hit .200 (10-3-35), while the Huskies hit at .205 (14-5-44).
 
The Huskies dominated the start of the fourth set quickly taking a 7-1 lead. The Spartans fought back with a 13-9 run to cut the lead to two points trailing 16-14. The Huskies got their lead back to four points, 19-15. But from there the Spartans took over outscoring the Huskies 10-3 to take the set 25-23 and the match 3-1. TWU hit at .118 (11-7-34), while Saskatchewan hit at .105 (13-9-38).
 
The Spartans and Huskies will match up again next week in the Canada West play-in round of the Canada West playoffs in Saskatoon, Sask. Game one of the best-of-three series is set for Friday, February 21 at 7:00 PM at the Physical Activity Complex. Tickets are available at HuskieTickets.com.
