Mustangs book spot in U SPORTS Championship with 3-0 win over York in OUA Bronze Medal Match

Toronto, ON – The Mustangs Men’s Volleyball cinderella run in the 2025 post season continues as they blanked the York Lions 3-0 on Friday night in the OUA bronze medal macth to book their spot in the U SPORTS Championship later this month.

The game began really well for the Mustangs with a solid lead at 5-1 from back-to-back kills which then resulted in a timeout from York. Western maintained a large gap as the Lions made a few errors bringing the score to 11-4. After the Mustangs got another kill, York took their last timeout to regroup with the score at 15-8. Western then took the first set with quite a bit of ease at 25-17. 

The second set also started off strong for Western with the advantage at 7-2 due to their many attacks. The Lions then asked for a timeout at 10-4 Mustangs. After a couple kills from the Mustangs, York called another timeout at 14-8. Western kept a large distance throughout this set with many kills and benefited quite a bit from the errors of the lions. The Mustangs ended the second smoothly with a score of 25-16. 

The third set had a slightly closer commence with the Mustangs ahead at 6-4. The gap stayed the same with kills from both teams at 9-7 Western. At 12-7 the Lions asked for a timeout to try and tighten the space. York then asked for their second timeout at 17-9. The Mustangs worked hard to stay ahead this game and won the bronze medal match in 3, securing the last set with the score of 25-14.
