Brock opened the weekend series with an entertaining five-set match against Western.
The Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team were unable to complete a dramatic comeback over the Western Mustangs, dropping the contest 3-2 (25-27, 21-25, 26-24, 25-17, 9-15) on Friday, Jan. 24 at Alumni Hall.
Devin Cooney notched a game-high 23 points off 20 kills, two blocks and one ace, with Nanle Yusuf just behind him at 21.5 points off 19 kills and 1.5 blocks.
A late comeback down 24-20 was not enough momentum to steal the opening set as the Badgers were bested by the Mustangs 27-25.
In the next set, 11 service errors between both teams kept it close, with the Mustangs prevailing 25-21.
The Badgers held firm in the third set, winning it 26-24 off a Cooney kill and the deciding point being one of Jack Barrett’s three blocks of the match.
Despite individual mistakes earlier on in the match, the Badgers overcame them to tie the match at two sets apiece with an emphatic 25-17 win.
Western took control in the deciding set, starting off 5-0 and leading by as many as six points as they won 15-9.
With a .230 hitting percentage, Western led the Badgers who recorded a .188.
Up next, the Badgers remain in London to face the Western Mustangs at 4 p.m at Alumni Hall. The match will be available on OUA.tv.
