Mustangs Edge Bold in Return to Court

LONDON – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) men’s volleyball fell in their first action of 2025, dropping their second half opener against the Western Mustangs, 3-0. The loss moves the Bold to 4-5 on the season, good for sixth place in the OUA.

In a tightly contested opening set, the Bold were unable to open a gap on the Mustangs despite holding a 13-11 lead halfway through the set. The Mustangs capitalized on a trio of Bold errors, securing them a 25-22 first set victory.

Western quickly capitalized on the momentum from their hot start, running away with a 25-20 second set win. The Mustangs would close out the contest in the third set with a hard-fought 25-21 victory in the final frame.

Jacob Walker and Alex King led the Bold with 11 kills each, while Taylor Wenzel added a team leading 37 assists. Lucas Yang also recorded 12 digs to help the TMU effort. As a team the Bold recorded a .238 hitting percentage, however were unable to overcome their 17 total team errors.

In the loss Taylor Wenzel recorded his 1000th career assist, becoming the sixth player in program history to achieve the four-digit plateau. His third assist of the contest, coming via a Riley Donovan kill that helped seal the milestone.

The Bold are back in action tomorrow afternoon with a rematch against the Mustangs from London, Ontario. Fans can stream the game on OUA.tv, with first serve scheduled for 4:00 PM.
