London ON – After their win against Brock Friday night, the Mustangs were looking to take another one home on Saturday evening.
The match didn’t get off to the ideal start for Western as they found themselves in a 6-1 deficit quickly, forcing a Mustangs timeout. Western benefited mainly from Brocks errors bringing them up to 16-13. Coming back stronger than ever, the Mustangs pulled off a solid run giving them the lead at 20-18. At 23-23 the Mustangs called for a timeout to break up a 2-streak kill from the Badgers. Western ended up taking the set 25-23.

The second set began with an even score with both teams right behind one another. The Mustangs took the lead at 12-9 after some communication errors from the Badgers resulted in them calling a timeout. After a bunch of points going back and forth, Brock was up 23-21. The Badgers ended the set with a serving streak at 25-21, tieing the match at 1-1.
The third set began with a rockier start for the Mustangs, as the Badgers moved out to a 7-5 advantage. As play progressed, the score remained close throughout, After a pair of serves from Western, the Badgers called for a timeout at 13-10. The Mustangs powered through with the leverage at 20-17 after some hard fought rallies. Western called a timeout at 22-21 as the Badgers had caught up to them. The Mustangs end up winning the set 25-23.

The fourth set began with the Mustangs just slightly behind the Badgers on each point. At a four point lead from Brock, Western called time out at 13-9. The Badgers kept the lead at 18-13, keeping the Mustangs on their toes. As the Mustangs caught up to Brock at 22-19, the Badgers called for a timeout to try and preserve the advantage. Brock would end up taking the win at 25-21, extending the game to a fifth set.
In the fifth set Brock carried over their momentum and started off strong with a lead of 6-2, making Western call a timeout. The Mustangs pushed through with a pair of blocks bringing them up to 10-7. Brock finished off the win, ending the game with a 15-11 set win.
“You win some of them, you lose some of them. Roll the die and see what happens.” said Head Coach Jim Sage after the match. “We’ve got so many injuries and illnesses throughout our roster right now, give Brock their credit though, that’s a good team over there, hopefully we can heal up for next week,”
