Peterborough, ON – For the second night in a row the Mustangs take a 3-0 win over Trent to stay at the top of the OUA standings.
Western opened the first set with a strong start, scoring three consecutive points, including a kill by Claire Stewart, a block by Stewart and Robin Henshaw. Emma Buntic contributed significantly with a service ace, helping extend the Mustangs’ lead to 6-1. The Mustangs maintained momentum with a series of successful plays, including kills by Nyla Tukker and Jade Longlad, reaching a 14-4 lead. The Mustangs closed the set with a service ace by Longlad, securing a 25-16 victory.

Western dominated the second set, starting with a 7-0 run, including back-to-back service aces by Karly Vrbanac and a kill by Emma Buntic assisted by Jade Longlad. Lael Harrison contributed significantly with multiple attack errors forced from Trent’s side and a crucial block alongside Nyla Tukker that widened the lead. The Mustangs maintained momentum throughout the set, closing it at 25-17 with Nyla Tukker’s block securing the final point.

The third set began with an early lead for Western, capitalizing on errors by Trent to achieve a 5-1 advantage within the first few minutes. Western’s Kaya Singha and Emma Buntic each contributed with key kills, with Singha adding a service ace at 7-3. A significant momentum shift occurred when Robin Henshaw’s service run helped the Mustangs secure five consecutive points, taking the score from 19-13 to 24-13, culminating in a 25-14 set victory for Western.

Nyla Tukker had a standout night, leading the squad with an impressive .727 hitting percentage and contributing significantly on defense with 4 total blocks across three games. Jade Longlad has also made a strong impact, adding 19 assists over two sets. Claire Stewart demonstrated efficiency with a .600 hitting percentage and chipped in with 4.5 points in her single set played. Robin Henshaw rounds out the top performers, contributing a .333 hitting percentage and earning 6.5 points over three sets.
The Mustangs will face Brock next weekend, starting Friday (January 24) at 6 p.m.
