Daryan Chadwick led the Badgers with a career-high 12.5 points as Brock swept the Lakehead Thunderwolves (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) on Saturday, Dec 2. at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The first-year outside hitter led the Badgers with 12 kills and nine digs, while third year outside hitter Emily Foest notched 11.5 points off eight kills, one block and a team-leading three service aces. First-year setter Mackenna Knox distributed 36 assists and led the Badgers with three total blocks alongside middle’s Gigi Markotic and Meera Sayal.
Brock started the first set off strong, taking an early 14-3 lead and forcing multiple timeouts from Lakehead. Following their second timeout, the Thunderwolves showed their resilience, bringing the game within six points late in the set. It proved to be too little too late, as the Badgers took the set 25-18.
The second set proved to be much more competitive, as back-and-forth action saw the game deadlocked at 10-10 early on. First-year defensive specialist Brianne Whalen subbed into the game for Brock and put on a serving masterclass, including an ace. The Hamilton product helped the Badgers establish a solid lead as they held on for the 25-19 second set victory.
The competitive competition continued in the third set as Brock and Lakehead traded points until 23-23. A late service error by the Thunderwolves gave Brock the edge. Foest then made no mistake, serving her third ace of the day to take the set 25-23 and completing the perfect weekend for the Badgers.
Up next, the Badgers (7-1) will have some time off for the holiday break, before returning to host the RMC Paladins (0-6) on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 6:00 p.m. at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
