The Government of Ontario announced on Monday, June 7 that the province will be ready to enter Step 1 of the Reopening Strategy, effective on Friday, June 11 at 12:01 a.m.

The transition to Step 1 will mean a lifting of restrictions across multiple industries, including sport and recreation. With the first step focusing more on outdoor activities, the province can safely enjoy sport and recreational activities, albeit with a modified capacity.

For the OVA and its members, the Government has allowed the following to occur:

  • Outdoor individual/team sport training (no games, no scrimmages) to be permitted with up to 10 people (please confirm with your facility if coaching staff are included in the 10)
  • Participants must always maintain a 3-metre distance
  • Indoor team sport it not permitted except for high-performance athletes (Olympic athletes), social services and physical therapy.

Clubs that begin outdoor training upon entry into Step 1 can refer to the attached OVA Reference Guide. The OVA staff will continue to update the entire Return to Play protocols for Step 1 with the hopes to have it online by early next week.
