Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team is back at home with international experience under their belts when they welcome the No. 2 ranked Winnipeg Wesmen to the TCC.
Facing Winnipeg at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the weekend will pit the WolfPack (2-8) against the Wesmen (10-0) in what will be the first games of the second semester for both squads.
The WolfPack got the chance to partake in a once-in-a-lifetime trip over the winter break, as they travelled as a team to Istanbul, Turkey where they got the chance to experience the local culture as well as play some extremely high-level volleyball. During the trip the team went 3-0 with wins over Fenerbache, Galatasary and GEBZE youth teams.
Winnipeg enters the weekend looking to keep the momentum rolling after they had the hottest start of any squad in the country during the first semester. After winning all ten games that they have played, the Wesmen are currently ranked No. 2 in the country.
These two teams met up just after the winter break last year as they split a pair of games in Winnipeg.
3 Things
1: Papa Murphy’s will be serving up pizza inside the TCC all season long.
2: Friday night is KVA Night in the TCC. All Kamloops Volleyball Association members will enter the games for free with special prizes up for grabs.
3: The WolfPack are 4-0 against Winnipeg in the last four games that the two teams have played in Kamloops.
By The Numbers
994: Sam Flowerday needs just six kills to become the second player in program history and 26th in Canada West history to reach 1,000 career kills.
2: It will be a clash of brothers on the weekend as twins Tyson (WolfPack setter) and Paxton (Winnipeg middle) Koop will go head-to-head.
148: Winnipeg’s Isiah Olfert is second in the conference with 148 kills. Olfert is the brother of WolfPack women’s volleyball standout Brooklyn Olfert.
