Queen’s Men’s Volleyball tops York Lions in straight sets to advance to OUA semifinals

Queen’s Men’s Volleyball topped the visiting York Lions in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-23) Friday night in their OUA quarterfinals matchup at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC). With the victory, the Gaels, who entered the OUA Playoffs as the No. 3 seed, advanced to the semifinals.

Each set was tight throughout, with the Gaels finding a way to pull ahead late and win.

Nikola Mitrovic (Economics) led the attack on offence for Queen’s with a team-high 11 points, off nine kills. Ben Carr (Arts & Science) had 8.5 points powered by seven kills, while Reed Venning (Arts & Science) finished with eight points, also off seven kills.

Chris Zimmerman (Arts) put up a strong performance for Queen’s in the win as well, finishing with a team-high 27 assists.

With the victory, Queen’s advances to the semifinals where they will host the No. 7 seed Nipissing Lakers, who upset the No. 2 seed Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night in the quarterfinals.
