The Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team delivered another commanding performance at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The No. 2 Badgers swept the Western Mustangs (25-17, 25-14, 25-14) for their tenth consecutive victory on Saturday, Jan. 26.
Much like last night’s affair, the Badgers stormed out early. A 7-0 advantage was headlined by two service aces from Foest. The Mustangs used three service aces of their own in the frame to try to gain some momentum. However, the Brock offence thrived, notching 14 kills on a .462 hitting percentage in the first to take it 25-17.
The second set was hotly contested early, with the Mustangs coming out with more vigour than in the first. This was short-lived, however, as Foest’s work at the service line helped the Badgers double the visitors 10-5. The home side carried the momentum to a 25-14 second set victory. Brock’s tough block at the net made things difficult for Western, holding the side from London to eight attacking errors and just nine kills for a mere .032 hitting percentage.
A 6-2 run to begin the third set resulted in Western’s first timeout in the third. Another timeout for the Mustangs at 13-4 did nothing to stop the Badgers’ momentum. First-year setter Mackenna Knox got the keys to the offence in the frame, delivering nine assists as Brock cruised to a 25-14 win.
During the Mental Health Awareness game, resources were shared with the Brock community in support of the Bell Let’s Talk campaign that helps create positive change for mental health in Canada.
Up next, the No. 2 Badgers will take on a fellow nationally ranked team in the No. 5 McMaster Marauders. The first of two weekend matches will take place on Friday, Feb. 2 in Hamilton at 6 p.m. Catch the game live at OUA.tv.
