STRAIGHT SETS WIN FOR BLUES OVER EXCALIBUR

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team took down the Trent Excalibur in straight sets at Goldring Centre on Friday, Feb. 7.

The Blues dominated from the first serve, taking control in all three sets. Toronto displayed exceptional offensive efficiency, hitting .418 as a team compared to Trent’s .152. The Blues had a tight grip on the first two sets, winning them by a score of 25-17 and 25-16. Trent made a strong push in the third quarter, but Toronto was able to hold them off and secure the 25-22 set victory to sweep the Excalibur 3-0. Consistent play and strong defensive moments kept Trent from mounting any significant comeback.

Leading the offensive charge for the Blues was Iannis Toma with 13 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Lukas Humle followed closely with eight kills on an impressive .800 efficiency. Michael Hickey set the pace with 43 assists, while Humle and Toma provided value from the service line with two aces apiece. On defense, Luka Minic and Humle combined for three blocks, while Kenneth Mann led with 11 digs.

Nic Badalato and Charlie Winser were the key contributors for the Excalibur, particularly in the third set as they kept their offense alive. Badalato led Trent with 11 kills, followed by Winser with eight. Aly Saydam contributed 24 assists and recorded two service aces.

Toronto looks poised to continue their momentum in tomorrow’s (Feb. 8) matchup against the Excalibur at Goldring Centre. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets for Varsity Blues home games are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while matches are also streamed on oua.tv.
