TORONTO – With the regular season wrapping up across all sports this week, here are the playoff scenarios for each of the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold teams still in the hunt.
Men’s Hockey – Currently in 1st Place (OUA West)
Having already clinched their 13th straight postseason appearance, all that remains to be decided for the men’s hockey team is seeding. At 16-10 the Bold have already ensured that they will at least finish tied with either Lakehead (14-12) or the University of Toronto (16-11). One regulation win at home against Nipissing this weekend will ensure the Bold earn a first-round bye.
Women’s Basketball – Currently in 1st Place (OUA Central)
With a 15-5 record, the women’s basketball team is in prime position to claim their first OUA Central title since the league moved to a divisional format. Having finished second the previous two years, a victory on the road against York (Feb. 12) or McMaster (Feb. 15) will secure the top spot in the division. If the Bold are able to clinch first in the Central, they’ll ensure a first-round bye, and home playoff game which would take place on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC).
Men’s Basketball – Currently in 3rd Place (OUA Central)
At 13-7, the TMU men’s basketball team largely has their postseason seeding determined. With two games left against York (Feb. 12) and McMaster (Feb. 15) they are unable to catch division-leading Lakehead (17-3). If the Bold, who currently hold a two-game win streak, are able to finish the season with two wins, and Brock (14-6) lose their remaining contests, TMU could finish as high as sixth in the OUA. If the Bold’s current playoff position holds, they will be hosting a first-round matchup as the 7th seed. No matter what, the Bold are locked into hosting a playoff game at the MAC on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
Women’s Hockey – Currently in 4th Place (OUA East)
Currently in a tie for fourth place in the OUA East with a 9-15 record, the women’s hockey team is still in the thick of the playoff race. With the top five squads from each division making the postseason, the Bold are currently tied with Queen’s (9-15) and hold a one-game advantage over Ontario Tech (8-16). If the women’s team can secure a win against either Wilfrid Laurier (16-8) on Feb. 15 or the University of Toronto (17-7) on Feb. 16, the Bold will return to the postseason for the first time since 2022-23.
Men’s Volleyball – Currently in 9th Place (OUA)
With the top eight squads from the conference making the postseason, the men’s volleyball team is on the outside looking in. If the Bold (7-10) are to make the playoffs, they’ll need a perfect weekend set against the York Lions (14-4) and some help. If either the Guelph Gryphons (8-10) or McMaster Marauders (8-10) drop both their contests this weekend, and TMU gets their sweep, the Bold will be playoff bound for the first time since 2022-23.
Catch all games streaming on OUA.tv this season and postseason. TMU students receive free admission to all home games at the Mattamy Athletic Centre with the presentation of their OneCard. General admission tickets are available online.
