Warriors Fall 3-1 Against OUA Leading Lancers

Tonight, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the Windsor Lancers in a challenging OUA matchup. With the Lancers sitting at the top of the standings, it was clear the Warriors would face a strong team.

In the first set, Windsor quickly asserted control, demonstrating their strength and poise. Despite some solid defensive digs from Will McIntyre (Waterloo, ON), the Warriors struggled to overcome the Lancers’ momentum. Windsor clinched the set 25-20, taking an early lead.

The second set saw a shift in momentum. Windsor initially built an early lead, but Waterloo refused to back down. Nolan Reed‘s (Grimsby, ON) powerful swings kept the Warriors in the hunt, and Cohen Peters (Vancouver, BC) added a crafty tip over that gave Waterloo a two point lead. With the Lancers feeling the pressure, a timeout was called, but the Warriors continued to press, ultimately claiming the set 26-24 in a hard fought battle.

The third set was marked by a strong performance from Fehin Awobodu (Oakville, ON), who was a rock for the Warriors with crucial blocks, attacks, and digs. Despite his efforts, Windsor found a rhythm that was tough to stop. The Lancers finished strong, taking the set 25-19 with a service ace that provided them with a surge of momentum heading into the next set.

In the fourth set, Windsor came out firing. They quickly took control, pushing ahead to an early lead and never looking back. The Lancers showcased the style of play that has made them one of the OUA’s top teams, dominating the set 25-11 to seal the win.

Though Waterloo fought hard, particularly in the second set, the Lancers’ all around play and powerful offensive attack proved too much to overcome. The Warriors will have a chance to bounce back as they take on Windsor again tomorrow.
