This evening, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the Queen’s Gaels in a highly competitive match that showcased grit and determination. Despite their efforts, the Warriors fell in three tightly contested sets, with the Gaels claiming a 3-0 victory.
Waterloo opened the match with an explosive 5-0 run, setting the tone early and building momentum. Both teams displayed impressive hitting, with the Warriors matching the Gaels’ hitting percentage throughout the set. Liam MacArthur (Cambridge) played a pivotal role, delivering powerful swings that generated crucial points. However, Queen’s managed to edge out a narrow 26-24 win to take the opening frame.
In the second set, the Warriors once again started strong, racing to a 4-0 lead and extending their advantage to 12-5 with flawless serving from AJ Nichols (Aurora) and Lucas Redmann (Winnipeg), who added aces to the stat sheet. The Gaels, however, regrouped and mounted a comeback, shifting the momentum in their favor to claim the set 25-23.
The final set saw Queen’s adjusting to Waterloo’s offensive strategies, leading to an intense back and forth battle early on. AJ Nichols (Aurora) recorded his second service ace of the match, but the Warriors struggled to sustain their rallies. The Gaels’ consistency and poise under pressure allowed them to close out the match with a 25-19 victory.
The Warriors will aim to rebound when they face the Trent Excalibur on November 29th at 8:00 p.m.
