Women’s Volleyball Drops OUA Quarterfinal to Toronto

After a hard-fought match up against the Toronto Varsity Blues, Queen’s Women’s Volleyball dropped their quarterfinal game in five sets (22-25, 20-25, 25-15, 28-26, 6-15).

Toronto maintained a strong defensive presence through the first two sets. Strong defense, paired with the Gael’s slower offensive tempo through the first and second set brought the Blues a two-set lead.

In the third the Gaels found their stride. They opened up with a six-point run, taking the Blues off guard.

Their dominate offense and strong defense at the net prevented Toronto from closing the gap and the palpable energy shift in the ARC spurred the Gaels to take the set.

Queen’s and Toronto went point for point in the beginning of the fourth, until the Blues pulled ahead.

The Gaels dug deep and came back from behind with big blocks and strong coverage, anchored by Holly Biasi (Arts & Science). Biasi contributed 25 digs during the match.

Queen’s secured the fourth set with back to back kills from Aimee Lemire (Education).

Toronto came back hard in the fifth set and picked up the first five points and went on to take the set.

In the loss, Hannah Duchesneau (Arts & Science), Amanda Siksna (Education), and Mary Stewart (Education), shone for the Gaels. Duchesneau put up 21.5 points with 18 kills and four total blocks. Siksna bagged 17 points with ten blocks and eight kills. Stewart added another 15 points and 12 kills.
