The Lancer women’s volleyball team took a 3-0 (19-25, 24-26, 12-25) loss to the visiting Western Mustangs Sunday afternoon on home court.

STATS
Aryn Markett put in a strong effort with 7 kills and Emma Sheppard also put in a good performance with 5 kills and 7 digs for Windsor.

For the visitors, Janelle Albert had a massive game contributing 16 kills and 6 digs for the Mustangs.

GAME FLOW
The blue and gold got off to a strong start looking to redeem themselves after a loss against the Mustangs on Friday night. Yaila Sealy made a play to get a kill on the outside line that Western was unable to respond back. Most of the set went in favour of the visitors but the Lancers were still fighting for a comeback. The blue and gold went on a 6-point run with a shift in momentum to get some offense play back in action. However, the Mustangs were able to keep their foot on the gas and take the first set 25-19.

Into the second set, the Lancers were looking to give the Mustangs some trouble to try to take set. Nicole Woelk would dig and put up stiff hands against multiple Mustang attacks with Janelle Albert making several kills. The blue and gold were responding with more consistency and held the lead most of the set. Yet, even with some amazing back and forth battles between the teams, the Lancers were not able to contain the Mustangs and they closed a 26-24 set.

The last set would put the pressure on the Lancers as the Mustangs would create a 4-point lead early in the set to show off their strong offense. A long rally displayed the blue and gold’s fight to respond back with lots of scrambling, but the Mustangs took the point from a block that went out of bounds. They continued the pull away as Windsor struggled to finish off plays and focus on the defensive side. With good efforts to fight to the end of the match, the Lancers took another loss to the Mustangs with a score of 25-12 and final set score of 3-0.

UP NEXT
The Lancers will travel up to Hamilton for a mid-week game to face off the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, March 2nd at 2:00 pm in Hamilton, ON.
