Queen’s Women’s Volleyball finished their regular season with their tenth straight set win, taking down the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday evening (25-16, 25-16, 25-20).
With the win, the Gaels close out the regular season with a 17-3 record and secure the top seed heading into playoffs.
Queen’s capitalized on the chemistry that has built over the season and demonstrated their offensive power throughout the match.
In the first set, the Gee-Gees took the first five points, as errors on Queen’s side of the net held them back.
The Gaels chipped away at the Gee-Gees’ lead with service aces from Kennedy Millin (Education) and Amanda Siksna (Education) and kills from all over the court.
A seven-point run, served by Millin, brought the Gaels back into the front.
The Gaels kept rolling through the second and exploited holes in Ottawa’s defense to build up a ten-point lead.
They also improved their presence at the net to finish the second with eight blocks to the Gee-Gees one.
Hannah Duchesneau (Arts & Science) and Siksna took charge for the Gaels in blocks and closed out the match with seven and five respectively. Siksna also sits top of the OUA in assisted, solo, and total blocks.
The Gee-Gees led through the beginning of the third, but the Gaels fought back hard. They beat Ottawa on defense, causing several blocking errors.
Despite the Gee-Gees attempting a comeback, Queen’s sailed through the third and bagged the win.
Duchesneau led the Gaels in points with 19 and Mary Stewart (Education) added another ten. Collectively, the team amassed 38 kills.
The Gaels head into playoff action in the coming weeks. Full OUA bracket and match up details will be announced early in the week.
