Zig Licis Named to U SPORTS All-Canadian Second Team

KINGSTON, Ont. (March 20, 2025) – Queen’s Men’s Volleyball star, Zig Licis, capped off an outstanding campaign by securing a spot on the U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball All-Canadian Second Team, as announced at the U SPORTS All-Canadian Awards banquet in Brandon, Man., Thursday morning.

Licis (Computer Engineering), a fifth-year outside hitter has been instrumental in the Gaels success this season. 

Recently named an OUA First Team All-Star, Licis led the team with 222 kills, ranking 10th in the conference, and posted a .297 hitting percentage, the second-highest in the OUA. 

Hailing from Louisville, CO, Licis showcased its prowess from the service line, ranking second in the conference with 28 service aces, while amassing 267 points. 

Head Coach Gabriel deGroot lauded Licis’ contributions, stating, “Offensively, Zig has carried a huge load for the team and stepped up when we needed him most. From the service line, he’s one of the most aggressive point scorers in the league. He will graduate as one of the best players in our program’s history.”

Licis’ leadership has been key in guiding Queen’s to the OUA postseason and heading into the nationals with the No. 4 seed. The Gaels are set to face the Saskatchewan Huskies in the U SPORTS Quarterfinals on Friday, March 21, with the first serve set to fly at 9 pm.
