Layne is a Windsor native who played for the South County Bandits though her club years. She was also selected for multiple national and international competitions at a young age such as Team Ontario and the Youth National Team. Along with multiple divison 1 offers in Tennis and volleyball, Layne ultimately decided on the University of Pittsburgh to continue her volleyball career.
She collected multiple All-American awards and honourable mentions, an ACC Championship on two separate occasions, and was no stranger to being a strong competitor in the NCAA tournament.
After her reputable season in the NCAA, Layne continued her career overseas where she competed in the France A1 league for Volley-Ball Club Chamalieres.
