KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 20, 2025) – Chris Zimmerman, Alyson Reeves, Jude Wheeler-Dee and Caleigh Pribaz have been named the Queen’s University Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances this past weekend.
Zimmerman (Arts), a third-year setter for Queen’s Men’s Volleyball, was pivotal in leading the Gaels to a weekend sweep over the Guelph Gryphons, securing hard-fought 3-2 victories on both Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, Zimmerman dished out an impressive 41 assists and added 11 digs to his stat line. Zimmerman followed that performance with an even stronger showing on Saturday night, recording 48 assists and seven digs to ensure the Gaels completed the doubleheader sweep.
The Gaels, now sitting second in the OUA standings with a 11-3 record, will have the week off before they hit home court to take on the Western Mustangs in a doubleheader kicking off on Friday, Jan. 31 at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC). The first serve is scheduled for 8 pm.
Reeves (Commerce), a fifth-year forward for Queen’s Women’s Hockey, delivered an unforgettable performance in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win against the Brock Badgers, scoring the game-winning goal to secure the victory. The goal marked Reeves’ eighth of the season.
The Gaels will return to action on Friday, Jan. 24 when they host the Ontario Tech Ridgeback in a home-and-home series, with puck drop slated for 7:30 pm at the Memorial Centre.
Wheeler-Dee (Chemistry) had an exceptional outing at the University of Ottawa Winter Classic, where he earned a gold medal in the 3000m run with a school-record performance of 8:03.50, cementing his status as one of the top distance runners in the OUA.
Pribaz (Kinesiology) also had a standout performance at the Winter Classic earning an individual gold in the 1500m with a time of 4:39.70, and a team silver in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:23.55.
The team now sets their sights on the McGill Team Challenge, taking place in Montreal from Jan. 24-26.
